Focus
The King’s Way Church is a cell based church with a three fold focus:
- Prayer based and focused. To see God’s powerful move and revival in Vancouver, BC we need to understand that prayer both corporately and personally is vital and necessary. (Mark 9:14-29)
- As the early church met both corporately and in homes, during the week we meet in cell meetings to accomplish what Acts.2:42-47 is all about. On Sunday the cell groups meet together for a corporate celebration.
- We are a Holy Spirit focused and driven Church committed to the Word of God. Our desire is that that we will be baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit and live a life of holiness and dedication to our Lord Jesus Christ.
Leadership
Pastor John Kaptein is a graduate of Reformed Bible College (BRE) 1981 and Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary (MDiv.) 1984. Ordained in 1984 He holds his credentials in the Reformation Canada Network and is a member of the Christian Ministers Association of Canada although The King’s Way Church is an independent church. He is married to Dawn and they have 4 children. He has committed his life to ministering in Vancouver arriving with family in 1997 from London, Ontario and believes that long term pastorships have much merit. Since the church is not large he volunteers his time and holds a full time job. He is open to associate pastorships with others who hold a similar vision.
History
In 1997 Pastor John Kaptein was challenged by the senior pastor of the church he was working at to check out what God was doing in Vancouver. After much studying, interviewing other pastors, and much prayer, the 3 fold focus began evolving. But it appeared that we would have to church plant in Vancouver to accomplish the vision that God had given. On mothers day in May of 1999 the Lord “birthed” The King’s Way Church with a mission for Vancouver.
As part of the three fold focus God gave us directions on being a community based church targeting the approximate areas from Knight St. west to Main St. and from Broadway Ave (9th) to 33rd Ave. In addition God gave more specific directions showing a specific plan of seeing approx. 1200 people being on each side of a city block praying and reaching out to their neighbors. We see these 1200 people being not just from our church but from all the churches in the area who have committed themselves to bringing the good news of Jesus to their neighbors and praying for them. We invite you to let us know what block you would pray for in that target zone and we have a map that records the blocks.
Beliefs
We agree with the Historic Apostles Creed, we are Trinitarian, and believe that all people must be born again to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven (Gospel of John Chapter 3 in the Bible). We are called to confess and repent of our sins, to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved. This involves a personal commitment and as the Gospel of John says,”But as many as received Him [Jesus], to them He gave the right to become children of God even those who believe in His name (John 1:12)…”.
While we believe that every person is created in the image of God, that image was severely damaged in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve fell into sin (read Genesis1-3 in the Old Testament) and sin has separated us all from our God. Jesus Christ has provided us a bridge back to God by His death on the cross for our sins. Therefore for you to become a child of God the above steps of confession of our sins, repentance and receiving Jesus into our lives and being baptized in the Holy Spirit. Jesus clearly in the Bible says he is the only way to God, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father but through Me. (John 14:6)”, I encourage you to take that step today, now is the time and please let us know if you have taken that step.
